I have been to all these places in the past 5 years. Zero problems of you do your research and use common sense. I loved Rio, Sao Paulo and Salvador.

I wonder why tourists sometimes feel they are invincible and would walk around at all hours of the night in shady areas. These recommendations are mostly ‘common sense’ which seems to be not so ‘common’, I as a 65 year old whom has travelled all my life, one word of advice, travel in groups and don’t abandon your fellow travellers at night in bars and nightclubs.
