Romantic cities, beautiful sandy beaches, and fantastic food, Italy is simply a must-visit destination. But if you’ve already seen all the famed spots, such as Cinque Terre, Rome, and Venice, or are like us and prefer the less-visited places, you have something to look forward to.

In this article, we will reveal the 7 incredible hidden gems in Italy to visit in 2024. You just pack your bags and head straight there, until they remain undiscovered.

Alberobello

Italy is full of fairytale towns and villages, but Alberobello is perhaps one of the most unique ones. It’s located in Puglia and it’s known for the traditional trulli – funny-looking limestone houses with conical roofs. Travel back in time walking the crooked streets and admiring the distinctive houses. Don’t forget to stop by at the Church of Saint Anthony.

It’s also a must-visit place for foodies. Puglia boasts amazing cuisine, and Alberobello is no exception. Try the local orecchiette pasta, zampina, or bari focacia. The region is also known for fantastic wine and seafood.

Santuario Madonna Della Corona, Spiazzi

If you find yourself this summer in Verona, don’t forget to take a day trip to Santuario Madonna Della Corona. This picturesque sanctuary sits on the edge of a cliff near Monte Baldo and is a popular pilgrimage destination as well as a place to enjoy a bit of serenity in nature.

To get there, you can take a short walk from a tiny village called Spiazzi. It shouldn’t take more than 20 minutes, and it’s relatively easy. It provides scenic views of the surrounding mountains, and you will also pass bronze sculptures by the Veronese architect Raffaele Bonente.

Once you reach the top, you can explore the inside of the sanctuary or just savor the tranquility of the place. There is also a little café with a terrace serving drinks and light food to refuel.

Tavolara Island, Sardinia

Set just off the northeast coast of Sardinia, this limestone massif island is a paradise for all beachgoers, snorkelers, and nature enthusiasts.

As soon as you reach the island by ferry, you can settle down at its iconic Spalmatore di Terra Beach and then drift to the crystal-clear sea. On the other hand, those who prefer to be more active will appreciate the great hikes there. Just note that they’re not for everybody – all of them require a guide and good equipment, as most of them feature some sort of rappelling and ferratas.

Already falling in love with it? Sadly, you can’t sleep on Tavolara Island. However, as it’s not far from the main island, you can easily come again the next day.

Saturnia Hot Springs

Do you like to indulge in wellness and therapeutic procedures while on holiday? Then consider visiting Saturnia Hot Springs – natural hot springs in the idyllic Tuscan countryside that have been a favorite spot for relaxation for centuries.

Soaking in them offers various health benefits, including relaxation, improving circulation, and soothing muscle aches and pains – perfect if you did some hiking the day before. Above the springs, you will find a little town of Saturnia, which is also worth exploring as it’s home to remains of various ancient cultures.

Cima Cadin

Is hiking in the alpine scenery one of the items on your 2024 itinerary? The Dolomites are home to breathtaking hikes, one of which is the one to Cima Cadin – a forgotten but majestic peak with amazing vistas.

It’s quite easy to access through Via Ferrata Merlone which features a wide network of ladders (we wouldn’t recommend it for complete newbies, though). The hike starts at the refuge just below the summit and takes around 5-6 hours both ways. If you’re then continuing your journey, we recommend you stay for the night – it’s pretty cute.

Cala Goloritze, Sardinia

Sardinia is renowned for its stunning beaches, but this one seems to be out of the world and yet, it’s never too busy, as it’s protected. It’s only accessible by a hike or boats, which have to stay 200 meters from the shore so the beach won’t spoil.

A tall limestone pinnacle rises above the cove and provides a beautiful backdrop for relaxing in the sand or taking photos. You can also get your adrenaline pumping by climbing to the peak. On the other hand, the turquoise water is excellent for swimming, snorkeling, and scuba diving – the marine life in Cala Goloritze is very rich.

Scola Tower

Set in the Gulf of Poets, Scola Tower is a fascinating fortress that was created to look after the neighboring Palmaria Island. It was built at the beginning of the 17th century and remained in use until 1800 when it was severely damaged by the British during the Napoleonic Wars. Then abandoned for years, it was planned to be demolished. Luckily, this gem was saved by Ubaldo Mazzini and eventually turned into an important historical sight.

Today, it’s a sought-after point of interest by both locals and tourists. And even though it can’t be visited, you can glimpse it from a distance or snap a dramatic pic when going to Palmaria Island by ferry.

Spending a summer is a dream of many, and millions of travelers worldwide flock there every year to visit iconic destinations like Barcelona, Rome, or Santorini. Sadly, those beautiful spots become busier than usual, and all the lines can get pretty exhausting.

So what to do if you still want to experience the fairytale-esque Europe but avoid the busy crowds? To get the most out of your trip, we’ve got a few tips for you. Here are the 8 incredible hidden gems in Europe to visit in 2024.

Santuario Madonna Della Corona, Spiazzi, Italy

Santuario Madonna Della Corona

Carved into the Monte Baldo Mountains in northern Italy, Santuario Madonna Della Corona is a hidden gem that will simply take your breath away. For long, the sanctuary has been a popular destination for spiritual pilgrimages, but you will enjoy it even if you’re not religious.

It provides panoramic views of the surrounding mountains, valleys, and villages, and a peaceful atmosphere – perfect for taking a break from the hustle and bustle of daily life. Around, you will also find many scenic hikes and nature paths.

Thanks to its location, it makes a great day trip from Verona or Lago di Garda. It’s best accessed by car, but there are also some public transport options.

Tavolara Island, Sardinia

If you’re planning a trip to Sardinia, don’t forget to include Tavolara Island in your itinerary. As a part of the Protected Marine Area, it boasts pristine beaches and excellent conditions for snorkeling, diving, and boat tours.

The island is also renowned for its great hikes. The most popular trail starts at Spalmatore di Terra beach and takes you to Pratone viewpoint. However, note that the terrain of Tavolara is rather challenging and all hikes require a guide and equipment, as most include a bit of rappelling and ferrata.

Love cinema? Aim to arrive mid-July, when the island becomes alive with the yearly Tavolara Film Festival. On the other hand, for hiking, we recommend you come in spring or fall to avoid the heat.

Islet of Vila Franca do Campo, Sao Miguel, Azores

Bubbling volcanoes, lush nature, and quiet lagoons with turquoise waters. A vacation in the Azores already sounds fantastic. But there is one spot that stands out among others – the Islet of Vila Franca do Campo.

It’s set just off of the southern coast of São Miguel island. It’s shaped like a rocky ring with a lagoon in the middle, which makes it a great place for swimming, snorkeling, and diving. The best part? Not many people know about it yet, which will turn your visit into an enchanting and serene beach experience.

Saturnia Hot Springs, Italy

If you find yourself in Tuscany this summer, don’t miss the Saturnia Hot Springs. This natural spa is set in the idyllic Tuscan countryside just a short drive from the spa town of Saturnia and is ideal for a rejuvenating retreat.

Don’t worry, visiting Saturnia Hot Springs won’t break the bank. Just the opposite – you can soak in the thermal waters and its healing properties completely for free. However, if you’d like to take your experience a bit further, you can treat yourself to a night in one of the exclusive resorts. The area is also known for its excellent dining options.

Elafonissi Beach, Crete, Greece

You don’t have to go all the way to the Bahamas to visit a pink sand beach. You will also find one in Crete, and it’s called Elafonissi Beach. What gives this seashore its iconic color are the washed-up remains of pink seashells mixed with soft sand. The waters there are unbelievably clean and warm, perfect for wading, swimming, and even observing colorful fish and sea turtles.

Note that this less-known piece of paradise is getting noticed. For the best experience, we recommend you come early in the morning, so you can have it to yourself.

On your way back, you can pop to the nearby Kedrodasos Beach, which is about a 10-minute drive away. Be careful, it’s rather rocky and the stones can be slippery, so you might need a good pair of sandals instead of flip-flops.

Bastei Bridge, Germany

Not much of a beach bum? We’ve also got something for outdoor enthusiasts. Bastei Bridge is a fascinating natural wonder set in Saxon Switzerland National Park in Germany (yes, the name is misleading indeed). It overlooks the Elbe River and offers stunning views of various rock formations and deep forests, and has a certain historical significance.

It was built on the grounds of a wooden bridge that was part of the Neurathen Castle, and you can explore its remains as well while there. Many hiking routes lead to the bridge. They’re suitable for all levels and have different lengths. Simply choose the one that best fits your schedule. At the park, there is also a souvenir shop, toilets, and a restaurant to refuel.

Studlagil Basalt Canyon, Iceland

Iceland is famed for its unparalleled natural beauty. And Studlagil Basalt Canyon could easily be the most mesmerizing attraction there is.

The canyon is about 500 meters long and surrounded by up to 30 meters high basalt columns. Their volcanic origin gave them a dark color, which contrasts well with the bright blue river. All that creates a dramatic landscape worth a photoshoot or two.

Several hiking trails surround the area, and each of them offers a different view of the canyon. Thanks to its remote location, untouched natural beauty and solitude are guaranteed, and you’re likely to spot local wildlife, such as native birds and reindeer.

Meteora, Greece

The word Meterora means “suspended in the air” and that’s exactly what this place is about – it’s a complex of historic monasteries set atop tall rock formations and will provide you with an unforgettable experience.

It was established by monks seeking solitude and spiritual refuge. Today, it serves as a place to meditate, hike, and savor the panoramic vistas. You can also learn about the history of Meteora by exploring the monasteries, or through guided tours and museum exhibits.

Located in the Eastern Caribbean Sea lies a British Overseas Territory filled with expansive sun-kissed beaches: the Island of Anguilla.

Unknown to many, its popularity has been steadily increasing over the last few years. According to the Anguilla Tourist Board (ATB), the island is breaking tourism records this year, the same way it did in 2023.

In the first quarter, the country welcomed 62,188 travelers accounting for a 22.2 percent increase when compared to 2023 totals, said ATB officials.

Also, tourists spending at least one night in the destination increased by 15 percent compared to 2023.

These rather positive results have been possible thanks to visitors from key tourism markets such as the United States and Canada.

So far in 2024, 41,399 American tourists have touched down in Anguilla, an increase of 32.7 percent over the same period in 2023.

For its part, 4,689 Canadians, an increase of  22.4 percent from 2023, have also visited the country this year.

In December 2023, the country broke another record with 19,178 arrivals, an increase of 27.9 percent compared to 14,992 in the same timeframe in 2022.

But the ambitious government of Anguilla is not fully satisfied with these numbers and wants to scale operations to a whole new level.

To accomplish this, the island’s Clayton J. Lloyd International Airport (AXA) is undergoing massive renovations, scheduled to be completed in 2025.

“This administration made a commitment to significantly modernize Anguilla’s infrastructure, for the benefit of both our visitors and importantly, our on-island community,” said Haydn Hughes, Anguilla’s Minister of Infrastructure, Communications, Housing, Utilities and Tourism.

Earlier this year, the country also opened a new ferry terminal at Blowing Point as part of its new marketing strategy.

“The opening of the Blowing Point Ferry Terminal is yet another commitment fulfilled, along with the redesign of the Valley Main Road, the recent upgrades at the airport, and the development of the 20-year airport master plan,” Hughes said.

Anguilla’s economy heavily relies on luxury tourism, offshore banking and lobster fishing.

According to experts, the island’s economic growth heavily depends on foreign investment from countries like the United States, Canada, and some European nations.

Reasons Behind Anguilla’s Tourism Growth

5 Reasons Why Travelers Are Flocking To Anguilla In Record Numbers

Stacey Liburd, Director of Tourism for Anguilla, believes that these optimistic statistics are possible thanks to the support they receive from their stakeholders.

“Tourism thrives on collaboration, and this remarkable achievement underscores the immense cooperation and backing we receive from our valued stakeholders,” she said.

According to Anguilla’s Tourist Board, the main reason behind its current success lies in the expansion of its marketing efforts in 2024, by introducing “new destination pillars and developing new markets to increase arrivals and occupancy rates while growing Anguilla’s tourism industry.”

Massachusetts is an excellent state to visit thanks to its prime location on the East Coast and its rich history, culture, and natural beauty. However, there is much more to the Freedom Trail in Boston or the beaches of Cape Cod (although those destinations are well worth a stop).

We get you, not everybody likes to go with the flow. So if you’re like us and prefer discovering the off-the-beaten-path locations, we have prepared a list of a few undiscovered attractions we think you’ll fall in love with. Here are the 7 incredible hidden gems in Massachusetts to visit in 2024.

Cranberry Bog

You’ve surely picked an apple or two, and maybe even a pumpkin. But did you know cranberry picking was a thing, too? Cranberries are a vital part of Massachusetts’ heritage and many farms offer tours where visitors can learn about the history and production of this iconic fruit.

If you come during the harvest season, which is in autumn, your eyes will get dazzled with a feast of vibrant red colors. Take some home and have them and surprise your guests during Thanksgiving. Just imagine your family munching on cranberry sauce you made from scratch. Yummy!

Here are our favorite cranberry farms that provide field tours:

Santarella Gingerbread House, Tyringham

Source: Pinterest

Are you an artist looking for inspiration or do you just want to get a bit more creative at work? How about fulfilling your artistic endeavors at Santarella, also known as the Gingerbread House – a privately-owned property that once served as an art studio to Sir Henry Hudson Kitson?

The most prominent part of the Gingerbread House is the roof. This 80-ton, asphalt-shingled beauty looks exactly like from a fairytale book. And around it, you will find enchanting gardens.

You can either stay there overnight or drop by for an afternoon in idyllic surroundings. Don’t forget to check the website for seasonal events. They’re fun!

Natural Bridge State Park

Massachusetts also boasts many natural wonders. And Natural Bridge State Park is one of those hidden gems even locals don’t know about. It’s set in North Adams and its name comes from its main attraction – the natural white marble arch, the only one of its kind in North America.

Even though it doesn’t get much attention, it offers well-maintained trails that pass rushing streams, unique rock formations, and waterfalls. If you want to recharge batteries amidst the beauty, there are some picnic tables. Dogs are allowed, so you can take your furry friend with you.

Half Moon Beach

Source: Instagram @twin_teddy

If you’re looking for the ultimate beach escape, this place is for you. Half Moon Beach is set at Stage Fort Park in Gloucester. It’s tucked away between rocks and trees, and often overseen by larger crowds. It’s perfect to cool down on a hot summer day or to just enjoy a bit of serenity in nature.

Do you like the good old barbie? Grills are allowed in the park, so after you’ve unwinded enough, you can have a little picnic. There is a small entry fee, but compared to other beaches in the state, it’s pretty cheap.

Isabella Stewart Gardner Museum

No matter whether you’re a museum aficionado or not, this Venetian-style palace in Boston will surely impress you. It features a private collection of its founder, Isabella Stewart Gardner, full of European, Asian, and American art from various periods. In the center of it all, there is a beautiful courtyard garden where you can contemplate blooming flowers, sculptures, and columns.

Apart from the regular exhibit, the museum also offers a range of cultural events, from lectures and workshops to performances. And yes, it looks as if you traveled back in time, ideal to escape the hustle and bustle of city life.

Beach Of Brant Point Light, Nantucket

No trip to Massachusetts would be complete without seeing at least one of its lighthouses. At Brant Point Light, you can get two birds killed with one stone – glimpse a picturesque lighthouse, and enjoy some beach activities.

Savor the tranquility of the coastline, watch local fishermen and sailboats, or take a little walk around. Also, the beach is wide enough to not feel cramped, its waters are calm, and therefore suitable for families with small children. If you’re staying in Nantucket, get up early one day and catch the sunrise by the lighthouse. The atmosphere is truly magical.

Mid-Century Glass Octagon Chalet in Otis

Source: Airbnb.com

Do you like to vacation in unique hotel rooms and Airbnbs? We have something for you on this list, too. In the midst of the breathtaking Berkshires, we’ve found an octagon-shaped chalet with floor-to-ceiling glass walls, perfect for a romantic getaway or a weekend in nature.

Cozy up at the modern fireplace and enjoy the amazing views. At the back, you’ll find a large deck with a grill and outdoor seating, ideal for summer BBQ. At night, you will have a chance to observe the star-lit sky. The area is known to be pretty light pollution-free.

The listing also makes a great base for discovering Otis and all it has to offer. Head to Otis Reservoir for boating, fishing, and paddleboarding. On the other hand, Tolland State Forest and Otis State Forest are full of opportunities for hiking and mountain biking.

If you don’t visit California at least once in your lifetime, it’s like you wouldn’t have existed. It boasts incredible nature, stunning beaches, and chilled vibes, which makes it one of the top vacation destinations in the U.S. However, for the same reason, it’s often busy and overcrowded. But who said you have to stick to the most popular tourist spots?

How about you discover its little-known wonders and experience what the cool side of California is about? On top of that, your trip will be more budget-friendly. To help you prepare the itinerary, here is a list of the 8 incredible hidden gems in California to visit in 2024.

Sausalito

Sausalito is a charming little town set just across the Golden Gate Bridge. It has a rich history, a unique Bohemian vibe, and a vibrant art scene that attracts both painters and writers. Its hip bistros, cafés, and restaurants are another reason you should visit it.

Make sure to get a table by the waterfront to enjoy outstanding views of the San Francisco skyline. For a different point of view of the Bay Area, we recommend you take a ferry ride to the city, during which you will also get a glimpse of the famous Alcatraz Island.

Point Lobos

If you prefer spending time in nature to city escapes, head to Point Lobos. Located in Monterey County, this state park is often nicknamed the “crown jewel of the California State Park System”. And for a good reason. It boasts dramatic cliffs, beautiful beaches, and fascinating wildlife. All that often becomes the focus of photographers and will please any nature lover.

There is also a lot to see underwater. As part of the Monterey Bay National Marine Sanctuary, it’s home to various species, including giant blue whales. So go for a dive or snorkel, just bring your gear as there are no rentals available.

Note that camping isn’t possible at Point Lobos State Park and dogs aren’t allowed. However, you can enjoy at least a nice picnic – there are tables and barbeque pits.

Thousand Steps Beach

If you’re looking for the ultimate beach escape, you simply must visit Thousand Steps Beach in South Laguna. Tall cliffs from all sides border it and you must take a long staircase to access it. But don’t worry. It’s not really a thousand steps but a little over 200, which is definitely manageable.

You will be rewarded with a secluded atmosphere, pristine sand, and clean waters full of marine life. It also provides excellent conditions for surfing, body surfing, and skimboarding. In the southern corner, there is the Thousand Steps Sea Cave, which you can enter and explore. Just watch out for high tide and strong rip currents.

Salton Sea

Set about a three-hour drive from LA and San Diego lies one of the world’s largest inland seas – the famed Salton Sea. Because even though it doesn’t sit on the shoreline, it has salty water and is home to various fish and bird species.

You can engage in boating, kayaking, and fishing – if you’re lucky, you can catch tilapia or corvina. On the other hand, swimming there isn’t recommended as it isn’t considered safe. If you’re in the area, don’t forget to stop at Slab City, where you can get captivated by many cool art installations.

Burney Falls

Nestled in the forests of northern California, Burney Falls is an ideal place to immerse yourself in nature and enjoy some outdoor activities. The most popular ones include fishing, boating, picnicking, and hiking. One of the trails will take you to the park’s highlight – the 129-foot waterfall.

If you want to enjoy a bit of serenity in the woods, we recommend you come on a weekday. Also, the waterfalls look the best at sunrise. So why don’t you come in the evening, camp, and wake up to this magnificent nature’s glory?

Pinnacles National Park

Not far from Point Lobos, there is another undiscovered natural wonder – Pinnacles National Park. Its name comes from the towering rock formations, which are the main attraction there, and you can discover them through over 30 miles of scenic hiking trails.

Some are longer, others are shorter, which makes them suitable for all levels. In any case, bring your camera, as you’re likely to spot many birds and other wildlife on your way. Pinnacles National Park is also an excellent spot for stargazing.

Mono Lake

This is another enchanting desert lake that has been kept secret for a while. Similar to the Salton Sea, it’s saline and full of life, such as migratory birds, brine shrimp, and alkali flies. And the limestone formations called tufa towers add to its charm.

If you’d like to learn more about Mono Lake and its unique habitat, there is a visitor center. Alternatively, you can take a free tour organized by the Mono Lake Committee. They also offer canoe trips and field seminars.

Trinity Alps

California is known for its incredible nature. And who wouldn’t like to have a piece of it only to themselves? In Trinity Alps, this can be done pretty easily. This amazing mountain range spreads over 500,000 acres of land with about 600 miles of hiking trails. Yet, it’s often overseen.

Amid mountain peaks, crystal-clear alpine lakes, waterfalls, and lush meadows, you can soak in the tranquility you would hardly find elsewhere. It’s also well worth staying overnight. There are plenty of camping and glamping options in the area.

While Alabama might not be known as a vacation destination like Florida or California, it boasts fantastic attractions that will make your stay a blast. However, you don’t have to stick around the most popular tourist spots. How about you visit something unique no other state offers?

On this list, you will find the 7 incredible hidden gems in Alabama to visit in 2024 that will make your friends and family want to vacation in the Cotton State too. Here they are.

Alabama’s Natural Bridge, Haleyville

Natural Bridge in Winston County is another hidden natural wonder of Alabama. It’s 148 feet long and towers up to 60 feet, which makes it the largest natural bridge east of the Rockies.

To get there, you have to hike a 2-mile-long trail. But don’t worry, the terrain isn’t difficult. After you come back, you can buy souvenirs at a tiny gift shop and refuel at a picnic area. The site is open all year round and there is a small admission fee – so come prepared, you might need cash.

Rattlesnake Saloon, Tuscumbia

Are you a fan of Western movies? In that case, you simply must visit Rattlesnake Saloon in northwest Alabama. This unique restaurant features old-timey saloon decor, fantastic dishes, horseback rides, and live music.

However, it’s not just the Western theme that makes this place so special. It’s nestled inside a natural cave, which will take your dining experience to a completely different level.

Tinglewood Carvings, Montevallo

With its Tinglewood Carvings, Orr Park is yet another nature preserve that has been kept secret for years. And you now have a chance to discover it. But why Orr in particular? The story goes like this: in 1993, some trees in the park were destroyed by a storm. But instead of taking them away, Mr. Tingle carved them into various fairytale-like creatures and made the trees live forever.

If you wanna get the most out of your visit, aim to arrive on the 7th of September when it hosts the famous Tinglewood Festival. You can look forward to a whittling contest, car show, tractor show, and plenty of delicious food.

Ave Maria Grotto, Cullman

If you’re into art and history, put Ave Maria Grotto on your travel bucket list. This 4-acre park is set on the grounds of St. Bernard Abbey in Cullman and it features 125 miniature replicas of religious structures from around the world, such as Montserrat, the Basilica of St. Peter in Rome, or the Tower of Pisa.

Apart from being pretty, it’s a shrine of great symbolism. All created by a Benedictine monk Brother Joseph Zoettl, it shows what years of faith, craft, and dedication can result in. So come to take a minute to reflect and soak in the meditative atmosphere. Who knows what else you will find here.

Dismals Canyon

Beautiful canyons can also be found outside of Arizona, and one of them is set in Alabama. It’s home to an array of geological formations, such as sandstone cliffs, natural bridges, and waterfalls. On the other hand, the lush vegetation provides the perfect conditions for various plant and animal species, some of which are even endangered.

If you can, stay overnight, as Dismals Canyon is home to bioluminescent worms called “glowworms”. They require a specific habitat and only live in a few parts of the world. Take a guided night tour to learn more about these fascinating creatures and see them up close. Cabin rentals are available.

Neversink Pit, Fackler

Image via @peterkbrandon

Neversink is a breathtaking 162-foot open-air pit located in Jackson County. You can admire it from the edges, while experienced climbers can bring their gear and descent to the bottom of it.

The hike to the pit is short but rather strenuous – not recommended for kids. However, it shouldn’t take you more than 40 minutes plus you can be pretty sure there will be no one else around – perfect to disconnect and enjoy the solitude of nature.

Note that a permit is necessary but can be required online here. Also, there is very poor phone coverage. We recommend you come with someone for your safety.

Bamahenge, Elberta

Southern Alabama isn’t just about the sunny seashore and its beaches. Not far from Josephine, you will find something you probably wouldn’t expect in such a setting – an American Stonehenge.

The replica of the English Stonehenge was created by an artist Mark Cline and offers much more than “just” a circle of megaliths. There are also huge fiberglass dinosaurs and other quirky sculptures that transform Bamahenge into an unconventional art installation.

Spring is the ideal time to visit Arizona’s Saguaro National Park. The desert ecosystem explodes with color and life between mid-April and early-June. The 91,327-acre park is located within the Sonoran Desert, which stretches through Mexico, Arizona, and southeastern California. It is the only place on earth where the Saguaro cacti that the national park is named for grow wild. The majestic cacti tower is as high as 70 feet and can live to be 200 years old. They’ve become an iconic symbol that is synonymous with the American West.

Saguaros usually begin to bloom during the second half of April. They produce large white flowers with bright yellow centers that bloom towards the tops of their stems and arms—the blooms peak by the end of May or sometimes as late as early June. Saguaros won’t be the only cactus species blooming during a spring park trip. The whole desert will be covered in brightly covered blooms. During your visit, you’ll be able to spot flowers like the bright yellow Prickly Pear, the orange Staghorn Cholla, the magenta Strawberry Hedgehog, and the bright pink Chain Fruit Cholla, amongst others. It’s the best time of year to experience the breathtaking Arizona desert in all of its glory, and there’s still plenty of time to plan an epic vacation this spring.

Planning your trip

Saguaro National Park is divided into two sections surrounding the city of Tucson, Arizona. Tucson is a fantastic destination with mouthwatering authentic Mexican food and picturesque adobe houses. While you’re in town, make sure you stop by the iconic El Charro Cafe. In addition to being the oldest Mexican restaurant continuously run by the same family in the United States, El Charro is the birthplace of the chimichanga. When the restaurant’s founder, Tia Monica Flin, accidentally dropped a burrito in the deep fryer, she exclaimed, “Chimichanga!” and the tasty entree was born.

There are plenty of lovely places to stay surrounding Tucson. For a romantic stay, visit the Adobe Rose Inn—a bed and breakfast in a historic adobe brick home dating back to the 1930s. There are six guest rooms with unique features like stained glass and a kiva fireplace, as well as a seasonal pool outside.

If you’d prefer to get up close and personal with nature during your trip, the park has six designated backcountry campgrounds. You’ll have to hike 3.9-18 miles with your gear. They are not accessible by car. You’ll need to acquire a backcountry camping permit ahead of time, which you can apply for online at Recreation.gov.

Full of natural wonders, vibrant cities, and pristine beaches, there is always a good reason to visit Georgia. But how about you enjoy it without the excessive crowds this holiday season?

You don’t have to look further to find some undiscovered destinations. We have compiled a list of 7 incredible hidden gems in Georgia to visit in 2024 so you can jump straight into the car and set off for an amazing trip.

Hindu Temple, BAPS Shri Swaminarayan Mandir, Lilburn

You don’t have to travel far to experience the peace and tranquility of a Hindu temple. BAPS Shri Swaminarayan Mandir is the largest one of its kind outside of India and it’s located in Georgia, in the suburbs of Atlanta.

Apart from the spiritual atmosphere, it boasts unique architecture, beautifully crafted ornate carvings, and sculptures. Outside, there is a serene garden, perfect for meditation. You can participate in a prayer ceremony at 11.15 am daily. The temple also provides guided tours for groups or audio guides for individuals.

Cumberland Island National Seashore

The shore of Georgia boasts plenty of beautiful barrier islands. Cumberland Island National Seashore is the southernmost one as well as the largest one, and simply can’t be missed on any travel bucket list.

It offers 17 miles of tranquil sandy beaches and an opportunity to see wild horses roaming them freely, armadillos, various butterflies, and birds. You can explore it on a bike or through hiking trails. Both provide a different experience.

One day should be enough to see the main points of interest. But if you feel like prolonging your visit, you can stay in one of the island’s campgrounds or the more luxurious Greyfield Inn.

Stone Mountain Park

Atlanta is a lively metropolis. But did you know there are 3200 acres of natural beauty right outside in the suburbs of it? Immerse yourself in the picturesque landscape, fish, kayak, and paddle board on the lake, or hike to the summit of the granite Stone Mountain for 360-degree views of the city. You can also get there by high-speed cable car.

There are also plenty of family-friendly attractions. Walk in the treetops at SkyHike, go back to the pre-historic times at Dinosaur Explore, or enjoy a short 4D movie. So take your kids and head to Stone Mountain Park. We guarantee you it will satisfy even the most demanding members.

Ghost Town beneath Lake Thurmond

Set along the border with South Carolina, Lake Thurmond, also known as Clarks Hill Lake, is a fantastic place for summer recreation, especially if you’re into fishing. However, there is much more to that at Lake Thurmond. Under its surface, you will find a submerged town.

Petersburg was once a thriving frontier market town but was flooded to create the reservoir. On drier days, you can glimpse the remains from the shore. You can also get closer to them on a boat. Diving isn’t recommended as the lake is often murky and has some water traffic.

Chateau Elan Winery and Resort

We also have something for those who like to spend their holiday relaxing and indulging themselves with top-notch amenities. And there is no better way to do so than staying in a luxurious hotel, such as Chateau Elan Winery and Resort.

It’s located in the heart of Georgia’s wine country, not far from Atlanta. It offers a fantastic spa with massages and body wraps, exquisite dining options, and golf courses. You can stay in a comfortable room, suite, or a villa. And you can even book the whole thing for yourself for a special occasion, such as a big birthday or a wedding.

Atlanta Botanical Garden

There are more hidden gems in Atlanta. Adjacent to the popular Piedmont Park, you will find the Atlanta Botanical Garden. It’s renowned for unique plant collections, such as roses and orchids, charming displays, exhibits, and various seasonal family-friendly activities.

Reserve at least two hours to get the full experience. And if you get hungry, you can grab a bite at Longleaf. This two-level contemporary glass restaurant offers fantastic food, fascinating views of the garden, and a terrace – perfect for relaxing among the trees and basking in the sun with a drink on a nice day out.

New Manchester Mill Ruins

We will stay with the ruins for a bit longer. Nestled deep inside the Sweetwater Creek State Park, there are ruins of the New Manchester Manufacturing Company. It was built in 1849 and served for clothing production but was destroyed during the Civil War.

It’s set on the Red Trail; getting there can be challenging but manageable. Even though you can visit the site on your own, guided tours are available for about 10$ per person. That way, you can learn a bit more about the area’s history if interested plus you won’t get lost.

With its diverse natural beauty, rich cultural heritage, delicious cuisine, and renowned southern hospitality, Louisiana is a popular vacation destination. But if you’re a traveler like us, you will also want to visit some attractions off the beaten path for sure.

How do you choose the best ones, you ask? As usual, we’re one step ahead and have already tested the waters, quite literally in some cases. On this list, you will find the 7 incredible hidden gems in Louisiana to visit in 2024 that we have hand-picked for you.

Fort Proctor

Set on a small island in Lake Borgne, Fort Proctor is an abandoned Civil War fortress. It was built to protect New Orleans and the Mississippi River Delta from potential naval threats. Although it was never actually used as planned, it played an important role in Louisiana’s rich cultural heritage. Its unusual location in the serene wetlands also makes for great photos.

To get there, you need to launch a boat from Campo’s Marina in Shell Beach – an inflatable kayak will do as it’s not far from the shore. Another option is to take a guided tour.

Abandoned Jazzland in New Orleans

Six Flags was a thrilling theme park that catered to families with children and seekers of fun in general. Sadly, it closed with Hurricane Katrina and was never renovated as it was judged to be too expensive.

But don’t hang your head. It can still be enjoyed today for an exciting urbex exploration. You will come across muddy clowns, fallen mermaids, and broken Mardi Gras figures. The park is also often visited by alligators which creates a fascinating contrast.

Note that entering the park can be quite dangerous and is prohibited. But you can observe it pretty well from the outside and snap some captivating photos.

Gator Country LA Alligator Park

Thanks to the abundance of swamps, bayous, rivers, and marshes, Louisiana is known to be home to a large population of alligators. Gator Country LA Alligator Park provides a unique opportunity to learn about these animals and see them safely from up close.

Watch a feeding show, hold baby gators, snakes, and dragons, or take a swamp tour. A part of the park is also a petting zoo, which will please small children in particular. All that is under $20 per person.

No visit to New Orleans would be complete without a stop at Carousel Bar & Lounge. This famous bar is a part of the Hotel Monteleone and revolves like a merry-go-round. Thanks to that, it made it to the list of TOP 20 bars in the world by Vogue Living.

Take a ride on the carousel while sipping the Vieux Carré – the bar’s signature cocktail. You can also complement your drink with a delicious appetizer and enjoy some live entertainment as a backdrop, usually in the form of jazz or piano serenades.

Lafayette Cemetery

Lafayette Cemetery No. 1 is yet another hidden gem of New Orleans. It’s one of the oldest city-governed cemeteries and features many beautiful tombs, statues, and mausoleums. It appeared in many movies, such as Interview with a Vampire or Double Jeopardy, and also served as an inspiration to many literary works.

Retreat yourself from the hustle and bustle of the city and soak in the spiritual atmosphere. There are also many guided tours available that will make your experience even better with some fascinating stories and anecdotes.

Louisiana Swamps & Stand-Up Paddle Boarding

Louisiana boasts incredible wildlife and a unique way to explore it is through its spread water system. You can do so on a canoe, kayak, or paddle board, which has been gaining popularity, especially in the Fall season.

So, which swamps are the best to paddle your way through the natural beauty of Louisiana? Bayou Segnette State Park is definitely our choice number one. It’s located in New Orleans, which makes it easily accessible. Apart from regular paddle boarding, you can also try SUP fishing and stay in one of its floating cabins there.

Other great options include Atchafalaya Basin, Barataria Preserve Trails, or Lake Martin. In all of them, you can spot various bird species, alligators, and other native animals and plants.

Mardi Gras World

If you’re in or around New Orleans, you definitely shouldn’t miss a visit to this exceptional museum. As the venue says – it’s a place where every day is Mardi Gras – so you can enjoy the beloved southern festivities even though they just ended.

Mardi Gras World offers an insight into the history and traditions of the parade, a collection of traditional floats, costumes, and other props, and you can also try some masks and costumes on. The best part? It’s conveniently located in downtown New Orleans and the museum even offers complimentary shuttle service from the French Quarter.
